An absolute rarity! BONGA BONGA is wild-growing rainforest coffee from the ancient homeland of coffee, Kaffa, southwest of Ethiopia. This coffee is the millennium-old origin of all the coffees that have conquered the world in the last 1,500 years.
This unique specialty of “Coffea arabica” type, grows in the remaining 3% of the rainforest (which is 2000 square kilometers) of Ethiopia at altitudes of 1200 to 1500 meters and grows up to 8 meters high. It is one of the most important genetic reserves in the world and therefore an invaluable breeding material if diseases or pests destroy these great coffee plantations. A botanical treasure of immeasurable value!
The coffee beans are traditionally picked and sorted by small farmers by hand. Security of acceptance and reasonable prices far exceeding the world market price, as well as on-site infrastructural measures, will permanently improve the living conditions of small farmers and their families, while raising their interest in preserving the small remainder of the rainforest area. Because wild coffee in the forest in its natural habitat does not require artificial fertilizer, it only produces low yields.
So the bonga bonga beans have a flavor that no other coffee can ever reach. Its flavor is fine, floral and fruity, with mild acidity and an exciting hint of slight bitterness. What makes BONGA BONGA particularly interesting for gourmets is its “Terroir”, as winemakers would say. Even forest areas, which are only a few kilometers apart, produce coffees with individual tastes. We slowly roast BONGA BONGA with particular care to preserve the unique character of this varietal forest coffee.
My assessment of BONGA BONGA: Anyone who has not tried it is considered a virgin coffee connoisseur.
